Hair and soap buildup can restrict a shower, tub or bathroom sink. Some blockages are close to the opening; others need access farther along the drain. We check before choosing the method.

A little hair at the opening and grease packed along a kitchen pipe need different approaches. We explain the scope, equipment and price first.
Hand tools or, where suitable, a small hand-cranked drain auger may clear a nearby obstruction. This basic service tackles the local blockage. It does not include cleaning the whole branch line.
Suitable branch drains may need powered drain equipment or a high-speed cleaning machine to work through buildup. Pipe size, condition and access determine what we can use. Opening or repairing pipework is a separate scope.
Remaining buildup is one possibility. Roots, damaged pipework or poor slope can also cause trouble. Camera scoping and locating may help establish the cause where access and visibility allow.

In a condo or townhome, tell us whether neighbours have the same problem and whether your strata has arranged access. A shared building drain may need coordination with the property manager. Our scope is residential plumbing, not building-wide strata mechanical work.

Snaking may open a path through a blockage while leaving buildup behind. A recurring problem can also involve roots, damaged pipework or poor slope. We ask how long the previous clearing lasted and recommend further checks where needed. Repeated clogs do not automatically mean you need a new sewer line.
Not for every clog. Camera scoping can help investigate recurring or unexplained problems in an accessible line. Locating helps trace the camera transmitter from above ground. Blockage, standing water, pipe depth and access can limit the result. The camera service includes sonde locating and marking where a reliable signal is available; there is no separate locating charge. Camera inspection is separately priced unless included in an approved clearing package.
Sewer clearing plus camera inspection and sonde locating is $1,600 through a suitable existing cleanout (CLR-012), or $2,000 including toilet removal and reset (CLR-011). The camera upgrade is $750 on the same visit through the same suitable cleanout, or before the toilet is reset. Replace the clearing-only line; do not charge the same clearing or access work twice. One applicable call-out and GST are extra. Standalone cleanout camera inspection is $810; camera inspection with toilet removal/reset is $930 only when there is no active backup and no suitable cleanout. Root cutting is separately quoted for the cleanout soft-clearing package; toilet-access clearing includes root cutting needed to restore flow.
A camera can reveal a sewer belly—a sag or low section holding water—where access and visibility permit. Bellies can retain waste and contribute to recurring clogs. Clearing does not correct the pipe grade. If a confirmed belly or other underlying defect is left unrepaired, recurring blockages remain likely. Further clearing and pipe repair or replacement require separate approval.
Uncommon clearing risks: Uncommonly, roots or damaged pipe can catch the snake/cable or cutting head, and heavy wipes can wrap around it so it cannot be withdrawn. If safe retrieval is not possible, excavation, pipe access and repair may be required at the homeowner’s expense under a separately approved scope and price. Entrapment due to existing defects, roots or accumulated wipes is not, by itself, faulty workmanship. No. Drain clearing is excluded from our workmanship guarantee. Future blockages can depend on use, buildup and existing pipe conditions. Any separate qualifying repair has its own agreed scope and applicable terms. Read the workmanship guarantee and exclusions.
Stop using a fixture that is backing up. Clear the cupboard or area around it so we can reach the pipework. Tell us about previous clearing attempts and any chemicals already used. If wastewater appears in another fixture, stop using the connected fixtures and call to explain what is happening.
