Pricing and costs

Straight answers about the CAD $99 call-out fee, Diagnostics, approval, and what happens when we arrive.

First check, Diagnostics, and approval

Every visit starts with a visual, non-invasive first check: looking, listening, and checking visible plumbing conditions only.

  • The first check does not include tools, testing, disassembly, opening access, drain cleaning, leak tracing, repair work, materials, or parts.
  • If anything more is needed, we explain the next step and price before approved work begins.
  • Approved Diagnostics are billed at CAD $67.50 per 15-minute block and are separate from the CAD $99 call-out fee.

Pricing basics

How does Blue Monkey Plumbing charge?

Every visit starts with a CAD $99 call-out fee.

The call-out fee covers scheduling, travel, arrival, and the first check. After that, we explain what we found and confirm the next step before approved work begins.

Depending on the issue, the next step may be a fixed price repair, approved Diagnostics, or an agreed price range for variable-scope work such as drain cleaning.

Read more about our pricing and how we work

What does the CAD $99 call-out fee include?

The CAD $99 call-out fee includes scheduling, travel, arrival, and the first check.

It does not include tools, testing, disassembly, opening access, drain cleaning, leak tracing, repair work, materials, or parts.

Is the CAD $99 call-out fee deducted from the repair?

No. The CAD $99 call-out fee is not deducted from repair work.

It applies to every visit and is separate from repair work, Diagnostics, parts, materials, drain cleaning, and any other authorised work.

Is the CAD $99 call-out fee refundable or credited?

No. The CAD $99 call-out fee is not refundable or credited toward other work.

It covers the visit and the first check. It is separate from repair work, Diagnostics, parts, materials, and other authorised work.

Do you charge tax?

Yes. Applicable taxes are added where required.

If a price is being discussed or approved, we can clarify whether tax is included or added before the work proceeds.

Can you give a rough range before visiting?

Sometimes, for common jobs, we may be able to discuss a general range or likely pricing path before the visit.

Final pricing usually depends on what we can see on site, access, parts, existing conditions, and whether Diagnostics are needed. We confirm the next step before approved work begins.

Do you give plumbing prices over the phone?

Usually, no. We generally do not give final plumbing prices over the phone.

Plumbing pricing depends on what can actually be seen on site, the condition of existing parts, access, previous repairs, hidden damage, and whether tools, testing, or controlled disassembly are needed.

We attend, carry out the first check, then explain the next step and price before approved work begins.

Do you charge hourly?

We do not use open-ended hourly repair pricing.

Repairs are not priced as an open-ended hourly labour clock. Diagnostics are different because they are approved checking, testing, access, or controlled disassembly used to confirm the cause when the issue cannot be confirmed visually.

Approved Diagnostics are billed at CAD $67.50 per 15-minute block and are separate from the CAD $99 call-out fee.

Quotes and approval

What does “pricing before approved work begins” mean?

It means we explain the next step and the price, fixed price, diagnostic rate, or agreed price range before that approved work begins.

It does not mean every plumbing problem can be fully priced before the first visit. Some problems need an on-site first check or approved Diagnostics before the cause and repair scope can be confirmed.

Do you start work without approval?

No. We do not start approved repair work without approval.

We explain what we found, confirm the recommended next step, and give the price or pricing path before approved work begins.

What are the three pricing paths after the first check?

After the first check, the job usually follows one of three pricing paths.

  • A fixed price repair when the issue is visible and clear.
  • Approved Diagnostics when the cause cannot be confirmed visually.
  • An agreed price range for variable-scope work such as drain cleaning.

The goal is to keep the homeowner informed before work proceeds.

Diagnostics

What are Diagnostics?

Diagnostics are the approved next step when the cause of a plumbing issue cannot be confirmed through the first check.

Diagnostics may involve tools, testing, access, controlled disassembly, or further checking to confirm the cause before a repair price can be given.

Approved Diagnostics are billed at CAD $67.50 per 15-minute block and are separate from the CAD $99 call-out fee.

What is the difference between the first check and Diagnostics?

The first check is limited to looking, listening, and checking visible plumbing conditions only.

Diagnostics are the approved next step when tools, testing, access, controlled disassembly, or further checking are needed to confirm the cause.

When are Diagnostics needed?

Diagnostics may be needed when the problem is hidden, unclear, behind walls or ceilings, under fixtures, inside a drain line, related to water pressure, or connected to older plumbing that cannot be properly understood by looking only.

Examples include ceiling leaks, hidden pipe leaks, sewer smells, water pressure problems, recurring blockages, and issues where the visible symptom does not confirm the actual cause.

What happens during a visit

How Blue Monkey handles a plumbing visit from the first conversation to the approved repair.

What happens when Blue Monkey arrives?

We start by listening to what you have noticed. Then we carry out the first check.

If the issue is clear, we explain the repair and price. If the issue is hidden or uncertain, we explain whether Diagnostics are needed. No approved repair work starts until you understand the next step and approve it.

What is the Blue Monkey Way?

The Blue Monkey Way is our simple process for handling plumbing visits.

  • Monkey Hear: We listen to what has happened.
  • Monkey See: We carry out the first check.
  • Monkey Dig: If needed, we carry out approved Diagnostics.
  • Monkey Speak: We explain the findings, options, and price.
  • Monkey Do: We complete the approved work and test it properly.

The Blue Monkey Way is part of The Blue Monkey Constitution.

Why does Blue Monkey diagnose before pricing?

A proper price depends on understanding what is actually causing the plumbing problem. Some issues are visible and can be quoted quickly. Others need approved Diagnostics before the cause and repair path are clear.

Diagnosis before pricing protects homeowners from guesswork and helps us give responsible pricing before approved work begins.

Why do you start with a visual, non-invasive check?

We start this way because many plumbing problems depend on access, age, parts, previous repairs, hidden damage, or what is happening behind the visible symptom.

The first check lets us confirm what can reasonably be seen before quoting the next step.

What if the problem is hidden?

If the problem is hidden, we explain the Diagnostics needed before continuing.

This may involve tools, access, testing, or controlled disassembly so we can confirm the cause and recommend the right repair.

What is the Blue Monkey Constitution?

The Blue Monkey Constitution is the set of working principles behind how Blue Monkey Plumbing diagnoses, prices, communicates, works inside homes, stays within its service scope, and stands behind workmanship.

It explains why we listen first, diagnose before repairing, price clearly before approved work begins, stay focused on residential plumbing, and avoid selling work people do not need.

Read The Blue Monkey Constitution

Why does Blue Monkey stay in its lane?

Blue Monkey Plumbing focuses on residential service plumbing. We do not offer gas fitting, HVAC, boiler service, commercial plumbing, or after‑hours or 24/7 emergency dispatch.

Staying in our lane protects homeowners, protects the work, and helps us stand behind the residential plumbing services we do provide.

Services and service limits

What Blue Monkey Plumbing can help with, what is outside our normal scope, and when a specialist may be needed.

Core residential plumbing

What plumbing services do you provide?

Blue Monkey Plumbing helps with residential plumbing issues including leaks, toilets, drains, fixtures, faucets, garburators, electric water heaters, shut-off valves, water pressure problems, PRVs, sump pumps, water lines, sewer backups, Poly-B to PEX repiping, drain camera inspection where suitable, and business-hours urgent plumbing issues.

Service availability depends on the specific issue, access, safety, parts, and whether the work fits Blue Monkey's residential plumbing scope.

View our plumbing services

Do you repair leaks under sinks?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing repairs leaks under kitchen and bathroom sinks.

The cause may be visible, such as a loose trap, failed seal, leaking faucet connection, supply line issue, or worn shut-off valve. If the cause is not visible, Diagnostics may be needed.

Do you repair leaking faucets?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing can repair or replace leaking faucets where parts are available and the faucet is worth repairing.

In some cases, replacement is the better option, especially if the faucet is old, corroded, low quality, or parts are unavailable.

Do you replace toilets?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing replaces toilets where the existing plumbing, flange, shut-off valve, floor condition, and access allow the work to be completed properly.

If hidden issues are found, such as a damaged flange, leaking shut-off valve, floor damage, or previous poor repairs, we explain the next step before continuing.

Do you fix low water pressure?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing helps with low water pressure issues.

Low water pressure may be caused by a pressure reducing valve, shut-off valve issue, fixture problem, blocked aerator, cartridge issue, pipe restriction, or a wider supply problem.

Some pressure issues can be confirmed visually. Others may require Diagnostics.

Do you work in strata units?

Yes, where the work fits our residential service scope.

We can help with plumbing inside individual strata units. Building-wide strata mechanical systems, shared mechanical rooms, common property plumbing, and work requiring strata approval may need additional coordination or a different contractor.

Do you do commercial plumbing?

No. Blue Monkey Plumbing is not positioned as a commercial plumbing contractor.

We focus on residential plumbing. Strata common systems, commercial spaces, shared mechanical rooms, industrial plumbing, and building-wide plumbing systems may fall outside our scope.

Water heaters and water protection

Do you work on electric water heaters?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing works on electric water heaters only.

We help with no hot water issues, repairs, replacements, and installations where suitable. We do not provide gas services or gas water heater work.

View our water heater services

Do you work on gas water heaters?

No. Blue Monkey Plumbing does not work on gas water heaters.

We work on electric water heaters only and do not provide gas services or gas water heater work.

Do you do gas work?

No. Blue Monkey Plumbing does not provide gas services.

Contact a licensed gas contractor for gas-related plumbing or gas water heater issues.

Do you install tankless water heaters?

Blue Monkey Plumbing does not provide gas tankless water heater work.

Electric tankless water heaters and specialty water heater systems must be assessed for suitability, service scope, electrical requirements, access, and product compatibility before we can confirm whether the work is a fit.

Do you install smart water shut-off valves?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing installs suitable smart water shut-off valves where the home's plumbing layout, access, valve location, Wi-Fi or connectivity requirements, and product compatibility allow proper installation.

Blue Monkey is trained and certified for Moen smart water shut-off valve installation.

Do you work on sump pumps?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing can help with suitable residential sump pump issues where the work fits our service scope.

Access, pump type, basin condition, discharge piping, power, and the cause of the problem may affect whether the issue can be repaired, replaced, or needs further assessment.

Drains and inspection

Do you do drain cleaning?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing provides drain cleaning for suitable residential drain issues.

Drain cleaning is a variable-scope service. Clearing depends on access, pipe condition, blockage type, line condition, roots, grease, foreign objects, slope, collapse, or other defects.

Drain cleaning is not covered by the 12-month workmanship guarantee. If the blockage cannot be cleared with the approved service, further work may need to be quoted separately.

Do you use drain cameras?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing can provide drain camera inspection where it is suitable for the drain line, access point, and issue being investigated.

Camera inspection is not automatically included with every drain cleaning service. It may be recommended when we need to check the condition of a line, look for a recurring issue, confirm a suspected defect, or better understand what is happening inside the drain.

If camera inspection is needed, we explain the reason, access requirements, and price before approved work begins.

Do you do underground leak locating?

Blue Monkey Plumbing does not position itself as a specialist underground leak locating company.

If a leak cannot be confirmed through normal residential plumbing checks, further specialist detection may be required.

Repiping

Do you repair or replace Poly-B piping?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing can help with Poly-B piping issues and residential Poly-B to PEX repiping where the work fits our service scope.

Poly-B work can range from a visible repair to a larger repipe. Because access, pipe routing, finished walls, ceilings, fixtures, and existing plumbing conditions vary from home to home, Poly-B replacement is assessed and quoted separately.

We explain the visible conditions, access needs, recommended scope, and pricing before approved work begins.

Parts, products, and common jobs

Common questions about supplied parts, client-supplied products, fixtures, and product suitability.

Can Blue Monkey supply parts and fixtures?

Yes. Blue Monkey Plumbing can supply suitable parts and fixtures where appropriate.

This often helps avoid incorrect products, missing parts, poor-quality fixtures, and installation delays.

Can I supply my own faucet, toilet, or garburator?

Yes, in many cases.

Client-supplied products are not covered the same way as products supplied by Blue Monkey Plumbing. If the product is incorrect, defective, missing parts, or unsuitable for the home, additional time or a different product may be needed.

Guarantees, No Fix No Fee, and workmanship coverage

Clear, straightforward answers so you know what is covered, what is not, and how warranty issues are handled.

What does No Fix No Fee mean?

In plain terms, if we quote one specific fixed-price repair, you approve it, and we cannot complete that specific repair during the same visit for reasons within our control, we do not charge the labour portion of that repair.

No Fix No Fee does not apply to the CAD $99 call-out fee, approved Diagnostics, materials, special orders, other authorised work, drain cleaning, exploratory work, or issues outside that specific quoted repair.

Read the No Fix No Fee terms

Does No Fix No Fee mean the whole visit is free?

No. No Fix No Fee does not mean the whole visit is free.

The CAD $99 call-out fee still applies. Approved Diagnostics, materials, special orders, and other authorised work remain payable.

No Fix No Fee applies only to the labour portion of one specific fixed-price repair that was quoted, approved, attempted during the same visit, and not completed for reasons within Blue Monkey's control.

Are all plumbing repairs covered by No Fix No Fee?

No. Not all plumbing repairs are covered by No Fix No Fee.

No Fix No Fee only applies to the labour portion of one specific fixed-price repair that was quoted, approved, attempted during the same visit, and not completed for reasons within Blue Monkey's control.

It does not apply to open-ended issues, exploratory work, drain cleaning, Diagnostics, materials, special orders, or unrelated work.

What is not covered by No Fix No Fee?

No Fix No Fee does not cover the CAD $99 call-out fee, approved Diagnostics, materials, special orders, unrelated work, access limitations, unsafe conditions, hidden defects, drain cleaning, exploratory work, or problems outside the specific quoted repair.

What does your 12-month workmanship guarantee cover?

Our 12-month workmanship guarantee covers the specific plumbing work we completed.

It does not cover the entire plumbing system, unrelated failures, old surrounding parts, misuse, drain blockages, pre-existing issues, hidden defects, or product failures handled through manufacturer or supplier warranty channels.

Does the workmanship guarantee cover drain cleaning?

No. Drain cleaning is not covered by the 12-month workmanship guarantee.

Drain blockages can return because of pipe condition, grease, roots, foreign objects, usage, slope issues, collapse, or other factors outside the specific work completed.

Are parts covered by warranty?

Workmanship and supplied-part support are not the same thing.

Our 12-month workmanship guarantee covers the specific work we completed. Product warranties are separate. Larger supplied items, such as water heaters, faucets, garburators, and smart water shut-off valves, may be handled through manufacturer or supplier warranty channels.

Smaller parts supplied and installed by Blue Monkey Plumbing may be handled directly where appropriate.

Are client-supplied parts covered?

Client-supplied parts are not covered in the same way as parts supplied by Blue Monkey Plumbing.

We can install suitable client-supplied products where appropriate, but product quality, missing parts, incorrect fit, manufacturer defects, and future product failure are not covered by our workmanship guarantee.

We treat every home as someone else's property, not a job site.

That includes communicating clearly, working carefully around finished spaces, protecting surfaces where appropriate, cleaning up after the work, testing repairs before leaving, and explaining what was found and what was completed.

Our goal is to leave homeowners with a plumbing problem solved, not a mess to deal with afterward.
