Professional drain cleaning is designed to remove the buildup causing the restriction rather than simply pushing through it temporarily. If your sink keeps clogging, your shower drains slowly, or the same blockage keeps returning, the problem may be further inside the drain system than it appears. Identifying the cause helps determine whether the solution is simple drain clearing or whether a larger drainage issue needs attention.

How do I know if this is just a clog or something more serious?
If only one fixture is affected, it is often a local blockage. If multiple drains are slow, backing up, or making noise, the issue may be further down the line. We check this during the visit and explain what we find.
Do you tell me the price before doing any work?
Yes. We explain the proposed work and price for your approval before starting. If the issue is clear, we give a fixed price. If more investigation is needed, we explain that first so you know exactly what the next step is before any work begins.
Do you help with sewer backups?
Yes. Sewer backups can affect multiple fixtures at once and may require immediate attention. If wastewater is coming back into sinks, tubs, showers, or toilets, contact Blue Monkey Plumbing as soon as possible so the cause can be identified and the correct repair approach can be determined.
Can all drain problems be cleared the same way?
No. Some blockages are simple and close to the fixture. Others are deeper in the system and require different access or equipment. We choose the correct method based on what we find.
What causes drains to keep clogging?

Recurring clogs may involve buildup, roots, damaged pipe or a belly. A camera can reveal a sewer belly—a sag or low section holding water—where access and visibility permit. Bellies can retain waste and contribute to recurring clogs. Clearing does not correct the pipe grade. If a confirmed belly or other underlying defect is left unrepaired, recurring blockages remain likely. Further clearing and pipe repair or replacement require separate approval.

Clearing and camera packages: Sewer clearing plus camera inspection and sonde locating is $1,600 through a suitable existing cleanout (CLR-012), or $2,000 including toilet removal and reset (CLR-011). The camera upgrade is $750 on the same visit through the same suitable cleanout, or before the toilet is reset. Replace the clearing-only line; do not charge the same clearing or access work twice. One applicable call-out and GST are extra. Standalone cleanout camera inspection is $810; camera inspection with toilet removal/reset is $930 only when there is no active backup and no suitable cleanout. Root cutting is separately quoted for the cleanout soft-clearing package; toilet-access clearing includes root cutting needed to restore flow. See the full scope and pricing.

Camera inspection includes sonde locating and marking of identified roots or defects where a reliable signal is available, with no separate locating charge. Position and depth are approximate; inspection is limited to accessible, visible pipework.

Uncommon clearing risks: Uncommonly, roots or damaged pipe can catch the snake/cable or cutting head, and heavy wipes can wrap around it so it cannot be withdrawn. If safe retrieval is not possible, excavation, pipe access and repair may be required at the homeowner’s expense under a separately approved scope and price. Entrapment due to existing defects, roots or accumulated wipes is not, by itself, faulty workmanship. We remain responsible for our own negligent or defective work, and applicable consumer rights remain.

Is this something that needs to be dealt with right away?
If water is backing up or not draining at all, it is best handled quickly. Slow drainage can sometimes wait, but it usually worsens over time and can affect other fixtures.
