Does no hot water mean I need a new water heater?
No. No hot water can be caused by a tripped breaker, failed heating element, failed thermostat, high limit switch, reset button issue, wiring connection issue, or electrical supply problem. The cause should be diagnosed before deciding whether repair or replacement makes sense.
Why did my hot water suddenly stop working?
Your electric water heater may have stopped heating because of a tripped breaker, tripped reset button, failed upper heating element, failed thermostat, high limit switch issue, wiring connection problem, or electrical supply fault.
Should I press the water heater reset button?
Pressing the reset button once may restore operation temporarily, but if it trips again, the cause needs to be diagnosed. Do not keep resetting the water heater without finding out why it is tripping.
Why does my electric water heater keep tripping the breaker?
A breaker may trip because of a failed heating element, wiring issue, weak breaker, short, or another electrical fault. The tank may be protecting itself from a problem that needs to be repaired.
What if my tank has power but no hot water?
If the tank appears to have power but still produces no hot water, the issue may be with a thermostat, heating element, high limit control, wiring connection, or internal control fault. Diagnosis is needed before replacing parts.
Can a thermostat or heating element be replaced?
Yes. If the tank body is still sound, a failed thermostat or heating element can often be replaced. We still check the full issue first because no hot water and lukewarm water can have more than one possible cause.
Why is my water only lukewarm?
Lukewarm water can be caused by thermostat settings, a weak or failed element, sediment buildup, a mixing issue, or the tank not keeping up with demand. Diagnosis is needed before assuming the tank has failed.
How long does an electric water heater usually last?
Most electric water heaters last around 8 to 12 years, but lifespan depends on water quality, usage, installation, maintenance, pressure, expansion control, and the condition of the tank. Age alone does not decide whether repair or replacement is best.
Is an old electric water heater worth repairing?
Sometimes. If the tank body is sound and the fault is a simple serviceable part, repair may still make sense. If the tank is older, corroded, leaking, unsafe, or needs several costly repairs, replacement is usually the better value.
Do you repair gas water heaters?
No. Blue Monkey Plumbing repairs electric water heaters only. We do not service gas water heaters, boilers, tankless water heaters, or HVAC systems.
Do you replace water heaters if repair does not make sense?
Yes. If the tank cannot be repaired sensibly, Blue Monkey Plumbing can replace electric water heaters and install required supporting components where appropriate.
